The Town of Lincoln's Jordan Historical Museum is offering a hands-on, full day pottery workshop on Saturday, July 19.
Veteran potter Christine Bell will lead participants through a variety of techniques, including basic throwing on the potter's wheel, wedging and centering the clay on the wheel from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. She will also demonstrate how to make coil slabs, extruded forms, pinch pots and more. Firing and glazing techniques will also be covered. The workshop will be held outside under a tent, and will feature pottery wheels and a table for other forms.
Bell was born in London, England. She was exposed at an early age to dance and art, as well as travel and culture as her mother was a dancer with the London Ballet and her father was an engineer who traveled with his family a great deal. Bell emigrated to Canada in 1964, where she met and married her husband and raised four children.
In her 44 years as a potter, Bell has taken numerous workshops and courses, taught pottery privately and in the college system, attended numerous shows, and is now setting up a new studio in Caledonia. Her latest interest is as a re-enactor of the 1800's as a pioneer potter.A minimum of 10 people must be enrolled for the workshop to take place, and pre-registration must be done by Friday, July 11. The fee of $65 will include firing and glazing. Finished items will be delivered back to the museum for pick up the following week.
