Green: Two Sides Lie Within, an exhibit by Mae Leong, is currently on display at the Jordan Art Gallery.
The works will be on display until July 31, revealing her recent thoughts on environmental issues.
Her new green series of paintings is inspired by nature.
On her canvas, Leong creates surfaces and marks from the reference of the rigidity of tree bark and the soft floral imagery.
The juxtaposition of heavy, solid textures and the dream-like ecstatic imageries suggests the co-existence of two extremes in nature, and yet the symbiosis results in a harmony and calmness.
Leong explores such a state of balance between the two sides of everything in our world through her paintings.
Leong is a Hong Kong-born, Canada-based multidisciplinary artist.
Her work has been included in various solo and group exhibitions in Vancouver, Toronto, California, Montana, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau (China).
Other than working in installation and photography, she also paints and draws.
The Jordan Art Gallery, located at 3845 Main Street, Jordan Village, is open every day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. More information can be found at www.jordanartgallery.com, or by calling 905-562-6680.
