Students at E.L. Crossley got a chance to display their artwork -- twice.
Earlier this week, 21 students displayed their entries at the sixth annual Art Calendar Contest held at the Old Pelham Town Hall.
This gave students the opportunity to showcase their work to family and friends, but also gave some students an opportunity to have their work appear in the E.L. Crossley Arts Calendar.
"We have a professional judge who is the curator of the Niagara Gallery going over their work," said Desiree Willebrand of the E.L Crossley School Advisory Council.
Twelve entries will be chosen to appear in the calendar, as well as a money prize for the top three overall.
There weren't many guidelines when it came to what the students could submit, so long as they fit on the 8-by-10 piece of paper of which the calendar is comprised.
Carrie Sportell, a Grade 12 student, has participated in the arts calendar contest for the last two years and even placed third in Grade 10.
"It's about whatever I feel like drawing," said Sportell. "I usually look at pictures and go from there."
Sportell said she usually sketches. The piece that won her third prize in Grade 10 was a sketch of someone walking in the distance with an umbrella.
Grade 11 student Alastair Braun uses colour and detail to create his artwork. One of Braun's works was featured in last years calendar. The drawing was of helicopters and other flying devices.
"I just wanted a feeling of openness," said Braun.
This year he is working on an African cave painting.
In November, the calendars will be available to the public for $10 with all proceeds going back into the school.
