Back by popular demand after a one-year absence, a calendar featuring Niagara landscapes is once again being sold by the St. Catharines Photographic Club.

The calendar features 20 images gathered from submissions from club members over the past year. Club co-chair Vic Ens said in all there were more than 240 images that judges had to wade through and whittle down to the final number.

He said the high number of submissions reflects the growing popularity of the club, something that's coincided with the introduction and now dominance of digital photography.

The cost-effective nature of digital photography has made the hobby more accessible, he said, and in turn the club has thrived.

"That has really helped with the growth of our membership," he said. "We've had a good mushrooming growth in the last few years."

The calendar is on sale for $10 or three for $25. Proceeds are being split 60-40 between the club and the library, which will use the funds to purchase more books on photography.

Ann McKenzie, manager of children's and community services at the central library, said the club and library have always worked together, co-organizing photo contests and exhibitions.

"We've had a good relationship with the club," she said.

The calendar is on sale at the central branch and this Saturday club members will have a booth set up at Market Square. The St. Catharines Photographic Club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from September to May. Meetings take place 7:30 p.m. at Grantham Mennonite Brethren Church at 469 Grantham Ave.
