FORMER FLEETERS Over lunch in Crystal Beach one day in 2003, Norma and Ken Benner thought it might be a good idea to have Fleet retirees reunite. The first gathering was June 24, 2003 at the Fort Erie truck stop. The group has been meeting three times a year for lunch ever since. On Jne 17, a group of about 30 Fleet retirees enjoyed lunch and reminiscing at Bridgewater Country Club, which is where many of the former employees used to meet while working. Wonkers came to the Port Colborne Animal Shelter with a broken leg. Animal Care Worker Beth Robbins isn't sure what happened to the 2-year-old cat's leg, but it was so badly broken it had to be amputated. Funds from the Humane Society's emergency animal relief fund paid for the cat's surgery. He is 15-days post-op and ready for adoption.
Mary Boddy, shown with her pet donkey, Cotton, can breathe a sigh of relief. After a year-long battle with the city, Boddy is allowed to keep Cotton and her two horses, Ronin and Copper, on her Kilally Street property.
LET THE MUSIC PLAY The Friends of Crystal Beach and their little helper work the food stand at the Waterfront Concert series at Waterfront park on June 22. Five Sundays during the summer the FOCB hold concerts for the public. Proceeds go to the FOCB and to Crystal Beach Public school. MOVIN' ON UP Students in Sarah Thomas's senior kindergarten class at Rose Seaton Elementary School celebrated their graduation from kindergarten into Grade 1 on June 20. The students celebrated with parents, enjoyed cake and sported handmade caps. Mrs. Thomas said the 18 graduates are prepared for next year because they were all in full-day kindergarten this past year.

WII WINNER Rose Seaton senior kindergarten student Hailey Near, right, was presented with a Nintendo Wii by Gino's Pizza owner Jeannie Figueiredo June 13. Hailey's name was picked out of a jar of names of students who entered the draw to win the game system, which was donated by Figueiredo, who supplied the school with pizza lunches every Friday this past school year. Proceeds from the raffle will help send children to Camp Wahanowin in Orillia, Ont., which aims to help children increase their knowledge base, social skills and self-esteem.
