A SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS The Royal Canadian Legion in Beamsville invited local veterans to enjoy a barbecue and music on Sunday, Sept. 27. The gala was meant to be a fitting conclusion to Legion Week. MEETING A HERO Three-year-old Chloe Chambers high-fives Wainfleet firefighter Katie Marino. Members of Wainfleet's volunteer fire department paid a visit to Wainfleet schools early this week to talk about preventing house fires, the theme of this year's fire prevention week. AWARD-WINNING EFFORT Nestled quietly behind West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Memorial Gardens was chosen the winner of a new garden Trillium Award in the category "Public Places." LET THE WATER FLOW Grimsby Council celebrated the opening of the new splashpad with a brief ceremony on Monday night. Council members learned about the new facility, which is located next to Grimsby Town Hall and had the opportunity to see it in action. Ald. Dave Wilson noted the weather is expected to warm up this weekend, and if it does, it may be the last chance for local residents to enjoy the splashpad this year. On hand for the celebration, turning the splashpad on by touching the sensor, were: (L to R) Ald. Nick Andreychuk, Ald. Dave Wilson, Grimsby Mayor Bob Bentley, Ald. Nick DiFlavio and Ald. HOPE IN A PACK The students at St. Therese school will be sending bags of hope to children in Guatemala next month. Backpacks of Hope kicked off at the school for the third year last week, and students have been bringing in bags filled with school supplies, toys, sporting goods, toiletries and clothes.
