WE WILL REMEMBER Victor Wilcox, a member of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, salutes the flag during the playing of Last Post. Wilcox joined the army at age 18, just as the war was coming to an end. He was deployed to England where he trained as a paratrooper. A few years later he was sent to the Middle East on a peacekeeping mission.

LET THERE BE LIGHTS St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation board of directors member Rosemary Auld holds a few of the more than 5,000 LED lights that have replaced the traditional lights on the Christmas tree in front of city hall. This Friday is the kick off to the foundation's 23rd annual Tree of Life campaign. Each light on the tree represents a donation made to the foundation, which will direct the proceeds towards the purchase of equipment for critical care services, including ICU, Telemetry and the Emergency Department at the St. Catharines General Site of the Niagara Health System. The campaign kickoff gets underway at 5 p.m. at Market Square and features food from local restaurants, entertainment and activities for the whole family and guest appearances by Olympic rowing medalist Melanie Kok and offensive lineman from the Hamilton Tigercats George Hudson.
