The Grimsby Farmers' Market is getting a boost from the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation.
The market has received a $500 grant from the Foundation, as part of being an approved Greenbelt Market. Steering committee Chair Michelle Seaborn said this is the result of the market being more than 50 per cent Greenbelt based. "Since we have 68 per cent of our vendors from the Greenbelt area, we will be getting some support for signage from the Foundation as well as a community tent and a welcome tent, and some reusable cloth shopping bags that we will offer to our customers during a special event day which we haven't scheduled yet," said Ms. Seaborn.
The market currently operates every Thursday evening, from 4:30 p.m. until dusk at St. George's Ukrainian Church, at the corner of Ontario and Adelaide streets in Grimsby.
COOKING DEMO SET FOR THURSDAY
The Grimsby Farmers' Market will feature its next cooking demonstration this Thursday, Aug. 28.
Jan Campbell Uxton of de la terre café and bakery in Fonthill will be participating in the demo, which will begin at 5 p.m. at the market.
While Jan is keeping the focus of his demo a secret at this point, Ms. Seaborn said he will be shopping the market for the perfect ingredients for his creation.
de la terre, located at 1455 Pelham St., features organic artisan breads made in-house, organic, local and sustainable agricultural produce, light lunches, artisan cheeses and fair trade coffee and tea.
This is the third cooking demonstration to take place at the market. They are held on the week prior to a long weekend.
