As 10 young skaters practise their spinning and jump maneuvers at Rink Two at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre, a smile comes across the face of Judi Boyle-Krzeczkowski as she watches her student, Brooke Husband, on the ice.

"Okay, that's good, but try this," Boyle-Krzeczkowski told Husband as she showed her student how to properly perform a routine.

Minutes later, Husband perfects her routine before skating off the ice towards the locker room.

"These moments make it worth it," Boyle-Krzeczkowski said.

"To be able to work with the children and being able to teach them makes it worth it."

And it's Boyle-Krzeczkowski's passion for figure skating that is why Skate Canada, an organization dedicated to enabling every Canadian to participate in skating for fun, fitness, achievement, named the Niagara-on-the-Lake Skating Club coach as one of the company's CanSkate top coaches in Canada.

Boyle-Krzeczkowski was one of seven coaches from the country to receive the recognition at Skate Canada's annual National Coaches' Conference last May.

"It was a great feeling to be named one of the top coaches in Canada," Boyle-Krzeczkowski said.

"I got an all-expenses-paid trip to Regina where I attended a CanSkate camp with other coaches.

"I am humbled and it's nice to be acknowledged."

Boyle-Krzeczkowski has been coaching figure skating for 22 years. She is also the administrator of the NOTL Skating Club's recreational programs.

Figure skating was something that Boyle-Krzeczkowski has loved since she was eight years old and she laced up her first pair of skates.

Boyle-Krzeczkowski credits her skating coaches when she was young for instilling the passion of the sport in her.

"What I love most about all this is jumping. I love to jump, you can't spend the whole time spinning, you know," joked Boyle-Krzeczkowski.

"Figure skating is a very difficult sport, but it's something I'm deeply passionate about."

Coaching is a full-time gig for Boyle-Krzeczkowski, who has about 35 students under her tutelage. Boyle-Krzeczkowski joked that it seems like yesterday that she started coaching.

"I love being a coach. It's a privilege to be able to teach the students and instill my knowledge and experience," she said. "I don't have kids of my own, so my students are my kids. I'm proud of them."

In its 41st year, the NOTL Skating Club is getting ready to hold three registration dates for the upcoming season, including its pre-school, CanSkate, adult skate and Skate Canada STARSkate programs.

Registration takes place Sept. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sept. 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Meridian Credit Union Arena.
