Before the gymnastic season begins, the girls and boys at the Niagara Falls Lightning Gymnastics Club will be training in a new facility.

"We wanted to bring the club to the next level," said club president Adele Filice. "A bigger facility can do that."

Tomorrow, the club moves from their old location beneath a church on Stanley Avenue to a more centralized one on Lundy's Lane.

"We've already had people go to our new location to try and sign up," she said. "We wanted a bigger, better facility to offer new programs. We want to expand our boy recreation program of 30 members into the competitive field."

The club currently has 200 recreational and 40 competitive girls. Twelve of them compete on a provincial level -- Alexia Miljus, Tori Plyley,Victoria Belme, Celeigh Mackenzie, Bronte Titone, Victoria Ellis, Mikayala Gosnell, Emilee Hurst and Tabatha Campbell from Niagara Falls, and Geena Gambin, Lauren Ferguson and Maggie Moore who drive in from Fort Erie. The girls train on beam, floor, bars and vaults anywhere between 16-24 hours a week

"The girls that compete in the Olympics started in a club just like ours," Filice said. "The parents and kids are very excited to move to Lundy's Lane."

Andre Gorodetski and Valentina Kafhkevich came over from the Ukraine to coach competitive gymnastics with the Lightning. They have been with the club for 11 years.

"We are very honoured to have them and their expertise in the Niagara region," Filice said. "Our coaches really solidify our motto of 'we train future dreams.'

No competitions are scheduled at the new facility, but every year the club hosts the Lightning by the Falls Invitational in mid-May. Teams from all over Ontario and the United States travel to participate in it.
