Lincoln residents wishing to participate in a Terry Fox Run will have to travel to Grimsby or West Lincoln this year.

The Lincoln edition, which typically took place in Beamsville, has been cancelled due to the lack of a coordinator for the run.

Kim Smith, Community Events Coordinator for the Ontario Terry Fox Foundation, said it's disappointing, but won't be the end of the Lincoln-based run.

"We will be back next year," Ms. Smith said of the Lincoln run, which has raised more than $113,000 since 1991.

For this year, she said, runners will be encouraged to participate in other area runs, including West Lincoln and Grimsby.

"Wherever they want across the province," she said. "There are about 230 sites throughout Ontario."

The Grimsby and West Lincoln runs take place Sunday, Sept. 14. The Grimsby run begins at 10 a.m., with registration starting an hour prior, at Grimsby Peach King Centre.

The West Lincoln run begins at 11 a.m. at the West Lincoln Arena.

Other runs in the area, said Ms. Smith, can be found listed online at www.terryfoxrun.org.

Smith said in the new year, the Foundation will begin its search for a new coordinator to ensure there is sufficient timing to get a run going in Lincoln for 2009.

While there were some individuals interested in helping out with planning, they weren't prepared to take on the organizer's role this year.

Those interested in getting involved in the Run for next year can call the Foundation at 1-888-836-9786, ext. 227.
