Acts of children's generosity and compassion inspired the play "Kindness," which is playing Saturday at the Courthouse Theatre.
The play was produced by Manitoba Theatre for Young People and was written by Dennis Foon, who based it on interviews with more than 50 Grade 5 and 6 students from Winnipeg.
Jane Gardner, general manager of Carousel Players, who had the opportunity to watch videos of the production, said Kindness makes for compelling theatre.
It's based on interviews conducted with children in Canada, who were keenly aware and concerned about the devastation following Hurricane Katrina. Foon learned the children, worried about lost and abandoned pets, had launched fundraising campaigns to help. Foon was also inspired by the compassion these children had for those around them.
"It's a great story of kids growing up today and what's on their minds," she said.
Kindness will be performed at the Sullivan Mahoney Courthouse Theatre at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and can be booked by calling 905-682-8326 ext. 26.
