The popular eatery was voluntarily closed by its owners Friday, Oct. 24, after three cases of E. coli believed to be connected with the restaurant were reported to Niagara Region Public Health.
Residents are being asked to contact Niagara Region Public Health after several suspected cases of E. coli were reported in Niagara.
Two of the cases were reported by individuals who had eaten at the Little Red Rooster restaurant in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The owners of the popular Niagara-on-the-Lake eatery voluntarily closed the restaurant as of Oct. 24 for the safety of their patrons and public.
Medical officer of health Dr. Robin Williams is asking residents to call 905-688-8248, or 1-888-505-6074, ext. 7330 (during business hours) or 905-984-3690 (evenings and weekends) if they have experienced the following symptoms: bloody diarrhea and severe abdominal pain, with or without fever, between the dates of Oct. 11 and Oct. 24.
“We are conducting enhanced surveillance, in order to identify the source of this food borne illness,” Williams said.
The owners of the Little Red Rooster have been co-operative with public health staff during the investigation and have provided full access for food sampling and inspection, said public health staff.
