Let's for a moment, compare the Grimsby Peach Kings to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Like the blue and white, the maroon and gold direct their fair share of rubber towards the net.
Unfortunately, the other similarity is the lack of pucks crossing the red line.
Take last Friday's home game versus the perennial cellar dwelling Dunnville Terriers.
Peach King shots: 56. Terrier shots: 8. Final score: 3-1.
Matthew Beachin, Deryk Nagy and Steve Dumoulin did their best Hagman-Grabovski-Kulemin impressions to light the lamp for the home side.
At the other end, Ian Jones was Toskala, earning his second Junior C win.
But it is the low percentage of shots turned into goals that has Grimsby worried.
"We're doing everything great, we're working the puck well, we just can't score," said captain Dumoulin post-game.
"We get into spots and I think we're trying too hard to score. We just can't seem to find the back of the mesh."
Give Dunnville goalie Tyler Gilbertson credit. He stopped 53 pucks Friday night, many of which came on nine Grimsby power plays.
He had the Peach Kings thinking.
"It seems like we'll get a pass right in the slot, open net, and then we'll hold it for five seconds and think about it ... like maybe I want to go top corner with this," said Dumoulin.
"We can't find the net. We just have to be more assertive out there."
Dumoulin and youngster Connor Rilett share the team lead with seven markers in 13 games this season, pushing Grimsby to an early 10-2-1 record for first in the East Division.
That lead comes, despite an overhauled squad lacking the punch of former stars Drew Minor, Joel Agnew, Mike Armstrong and Steve Foster.
To date, Grimsby has scored 45 goals and allowed just 32, second only to the Norwich Merchants' league-leading 31 goals against.
"We've got 14 new guys, so at the start, everybody's getting used to one another, new lines," explained the 21-year-old.
"We're kind of gelling together now. All the feet are moving finally, so we're working better now."
"We're not quite there yet, but we'll get there."
The Peach Kings will have another chance to dent the twine this Friday, when they take on the Caledonia Corvairs at Peach King Centre this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The club is 6-0-1 at home this season.
