Woman jumps from car on QEW

A 77-year-old Hamilton woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after jumping from a moving SUV on the QEW on Saturday.

Westbound lanes of the QEW near Fifty Road were shut down for about an hour, while Ontario Provincial Police investigated the incident, which happened at about 1:50 p.m. Police say the woman was riding in the rear seat of the vehicle and tried to exit the vehicle while it was in motion. The driver tried to restrain the passenger while slowing the vehicle, but the woman exited the vehicle while it was still in motion.

Police said they do not know why the woman jumped from the car. She was taken to Hamilton General Hospital and suffered non life-threatening injuries. She was not hit by any other vehicles on the road.
