If you would like to find something special to give as a gift this Christmas, look no further than the Festival of Unique Gifts taking place this weekend.
The festival, which was created by Nancy Martin, a Niagara area Jewellery artist, offers a wide selection of unique gift ware.
"This is our first year," said Martin. "We are just a group of people who know each other and want to promote ourselves."
There are seven ladies who will be offering their creations to the public. They are Rosemary Culos who runs Dew of the Sea Studio in Fonthill and who creates things like decorative walking sticks and hand painted glass ornaments. Nancy Dair of Nancy Dair Decorations, another Fonthill artist, who will offer a large array of multi coloured needlepoint and machine stitched items. Fonthill-based artist Kim Jaques of That's a Wrap who will be offering a large variety of gift items including soaps, bath and beauty products.
Martin, who owns Gracie Jewellery in Welland, will be offering handcrafted jewellery pieces. Patricia Paquin of the Artists' Loft in Niagara-on-the-Lake who will bring with her a line of original paintings. Fonthill-based Flickers Gifts owner Krysta Pratt who will offer candles, tea lights and lotions. And Sharon Rollins of Bliss Boutique in Welland whose line boasts an extensive inventory of stylish and affordable wallets and handbags, among others.
"The festival is a way to promote our craft," said Martin. "It's about getting the product out there."
Along with selling their products the women have each picked out one item to be entered into a draw with all the proceeds going to Pelham Cares.
"We decided to do the draw and donate to Pelham Cares because everyone needs to eat," said Martin.
Tickets for the draw are $2 or three for $5.
Martin said most of the gifts found at the festival are mostly under $100. She is also already thinking about holding the event next year.
"I'm already thinking I have to find a bigger place for next year," said Martin. "There are several more who wish to join us."
The Festival of Unique Gifts will be held tomorrow in the Festival Room of the Fonthill Public Library from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
