An artist's spiritual journey to spread the ashes of a long-time friend at a lake they visited over the last 34 years is the theme of a new photo-montage exhibit opening this Friday at CRAM gallery.
Sanctity features eight photographic panels by Port Dalhousie artist Peter S. Wing, who incorporated the natural beauty of Killarney Park, which is located on northern Georgian Bay, an area often visited by the Group of Seven artists.
Using the letters making up the word Sanctity, Wing filled in the negative space behind them with photographic images.
The images were taken this October, when Wing and five friends made their annual canoe journey to the park, the same trip they have been making for the past 34 years as a way of retreating to the wilderness to gain perspective on their lives.
October's trip was the first made since they lost a member of the group, who died suddenly this year.
Wing said the title refers to both the journey he and his friends took this year and the sanctity of the natural world.
"It's a very beautiful area up there," he said of the park.
The exhibit opens with a reception this Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. and continues through to Dec. 3.
The CRAM gallery, billed as Canada's smallest, is located on the second floor of 24 James St., between Christopher's Magazines and Smoke Shop and The Office Tap and Grill.
