St. Catharines video game developer says the temporary layoff of 26 of its employees is a common move following the completion of a big project.
In August, the company released the long-awaited game "Too Human." A media release from Silicon Knights states there is often attrition after big games are finished being shipped. It states production teams are lean in the beginning, growing towards the end of a project and whittling down once the project is done.
The cutback follows a period of growth for the company, which over the past four years increased to 180 employees.
"Silicon Knights is currently working on several new and exciting games that will be announced to the public in the coming months," company president and founder Denis Dyack said in the release. "In addition to those projects, Silicon Knights continues to develop and promote other new and original ideas, which will become the innovative games of tomorrow. These 26 individuals are hard-working and valued team members that we hope to bring back as we ramp up on our future projects."
