Nearly 400 members of the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario (RWTO) attended their annual convention in Collingwood, from June 3 to 5.

Two delegates from the local Lincoln West branch were pleasantly surprised to learn that their group had won a special monetary award for the greatest percentage increase in membership over the past year.

Two other branches received similar awards according to membership size.

The Lincoln West branch is composed of retired women teachers, organized under a banner of 'Caring and Sharing.'

The group maintains a strong communication network that provides support for colleagues in times of special need.

A great deal of sharing occurs when members conduct programs that are interesting and challenging to the hearts and minds of seniors.

One ongoing activity is 'Books in a Bag' - partnering with West Lincoln Community Care.

The group meets four times each year to conduct business and enjoy a luncheon together. Each gathering carries a theme where a special speaker is invited.

The group has enjoyed presentations from a variety of local authors including Dorothy Turcotte, Lois Marlatt and Mary Pettit. Healthcare specialists, musical talents and craft artists have also attended.

The retired women teachers group also carries a unique and exclusive Post-Hospital and Homecare Insurance Plan.

The group is always open to receiving new retirees each year, as they qualify. Those requiring further information should contact 905-957-3122.
