There will be hundreds of antique cars cruising through the streets of Niagara next week.
That's when hundreds of members from the Historical Automobile Society of Canada will be embarking on a week-long trip to the region as part of their annual sight seeing tour.
Members from 15 regions across Ontario take turns touring and hosting the event and this year members living in the Niagara region will be leading a tour for the car club members to see everything Niagara has to offer.
"We try to get out to things you wouldn't normally see at a tourist area," explains member Bill Sauder, who owns a sleek black 1957 Chevy Bel Air complete with white-lined tires and shiny chrome rims.
Members will be sightseeing the region as they cruise in their classic cars, embarking on trips to local wineries, cruising the Welland Canal Parkway, visiting museums, car shows and other noteworthy places of interest, including a trip across the border.
"It's really a family event. Some of these people we only see once or twice a year," said Sauder.
He said the tour is self-guided, because hundreds of cars cruising to the same destination, in a line, all at the same time could create chaos on the streets.
"That would disrupt traffic," he joked.
He said the club, which is open to anyone with an antique car from hot rods to muscle cars, and even some motorcycles and fire trucks, is all about having fun.
"It's all about enjoying yourself and maybe getting to look at interesting places in the process," he said.
The HASC Niagara branch formed when a previous car club, started by Sauder's father, merged with another car club in the region.
This is the 51st year the tour is taking place. The tour starts Sunday and runs until Aug. 15.
Members will also be meeting at Tim Hortons at Merrittville Highway and Highway 20 on Saturday at noon to tour Hamilton.
