One family, five weeks, 12,000 kilometres.
The McDonalds are heading across the country and want the world to join them.
West McDonald, his wife Lesley Stratford and their two children Lucas, 6, and Arwyn, 2, are packing up their bags and driving Canada from coast to coast all the while webcasting their experiences.
Have Fun Out There is a family travel show produced by the family. It starts next Friday, July 11, when the family leaves its Port Colborne home and heads for Halifax. From there the McDonalds officially begin their tour of Canada.
It all started with Lucas's love for kids travel show "Are We There Yet."
"He wanted to be on the show," said West. "Once we explained to him all that was involved with being on a show, he said 'why not make our own'."
And that's just what the family did.
Since October the McDonalds have been cementing a cross-country trip that includes plenty of family-friendly activities. From fishing and tagging sturgeon in British Columbia to whale watching in Nova Scotia the McDonalds plan to see as much as they can of this great country in five weeks.
Along the way they will be giving Canadians an informative overview of each destination.
Every two days, the family will air a new episode of their family variety show "Have Fun Out There" on the web.
West is most looking forward to five solid weeks with his family.
"It's amazing how busy you get when you're at home," he said. "This is five weeks I get to spend with my family. There's nothing better."
On July 11 the family will pack up its Jeep Wrangler and head straight for Nova Scotia. Once there the journey begins.
They will stay no longer than one night at each destination taking in as much as they can and broadcasting it.
West and Lesley will do all of the recording. The trip is just the family and the open road. No outside videographers.
"We're trying to show Canadians that they can do this," he said. "There is so much to do in Canada. We've found so many things we never knew about."
The first episode of Have Fun Out There will air July 13 on the website.
