Regional
Aug 15, 2008
The Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is now accepting proposals for 2009-2010 funding as part of the provincial Aging at Home Strategy.

The funding, $18 million for the 2009-2010 period, is for initiatives that will support people to live at home as they get older. The Aging at Home Strategy was announced by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care in August 2007. The goal of the strategy is to enhance healthy aging and independent living for seniors at home and in their communities.

More than $60 million will be invested in the LHIN over three years. This call for proposals is open to all organizations servicing the LHIN that are committed to seniors' healthy aging at home including existing health care providers, as well as business, social services, recreation, community service and civic groups, and faith organizations.

Full details on the proposal process can be found under the Aging at Home tab at www.hnhblhin.on.ca.

The LHIN is particularly interested in receiving proposals for initiatives that address safety and security through falls prevention, and those that enhance specialized geriatric services for the frail elderly. These are priority areas in 2009-2010 for the LHIN Aging at Home Strategy. The submission deadline for these Aging at Home proposals is Sept. 5.

The Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant LHIN is one of 14 local health integration networks and is responsible for planning, coordinating and funding the local health system in this region which spans from Burlington to Fort Erie and from Burford to Cayuga and includes more than 1.3 million residents.
