Commuters travelling along Highway 58 will be detoured to other local roads during a $5.8-million construction project that began last week.
The construction, which is scheduled to be finished by October, will be completed in stages to minimize driver inconvenience, says the Ministry of Transportation.
The first stage is an innovative and environmentally-friendly construction technique called "rubblizing" and will be used to rebuild and repair Highway 58 from Highway 20 to Thorold Stone Road.
The technique crushes and reuses the existing concrete helps protect the environment because it recycles existing materials and minimizes the hauling away of old concrete pavement. It also reduces the need for new road building materials.
