GREAT SOIL GIVEAWAY at Port Cares, 92 Charlotte St. Participants can fill their own containers to the brim with composted soil in exchange for a cash donation to the United Way or a food donation to Port Cares. First 200 participants receive a free plant. Event, sponsored by Plants Choice, runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Barbecue from 10-2. Bring you own shovel and container.

BOATING COURSE REGISTRATION at Centennial High School sponsored by the Port Colborne Power and Sail Squadron. 7-8:30 p.m. 14-week course includes navigation, seamenship, ropes and knots, anchoring, rules and regulaions and fueling.

BAKE SALE Port Colborne Hospital Auxiliary are having a bake sale in the front lobby of the Hospital from 9.00 a.m. There will also be some jewellry and used books.

HAUNTED HALLWAYS Community Living in conjunction with the Port Colborne and District Conservation Club are hosting Haunted Hallways at 100 McRae Street on Oct. 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 29 and 30. From 5-7 p.m. for kid friendly spooks and 7 - 10 p.m. for older kid scary spooks. Cost is $5 a person and funds raised go to youth and children's programming. Call 835-8941 ext. 0 for more details.
