Search West Lincoln:
Township to enforce election sign bylaw
West Lincoln
Sep 26, 2008
Federal election signs that have begun to pop up on municipal land will not be tolerated in West Lincoln.

Ald. Mike Rehner brought the issue up at Monday night's council meeting.

"There are a heck of a lot more signs than there were a week ago," he informed other aldermen.

He then suggested that Public Works pick up the election signs and bill the respective political parties for the time.

He said this was an example of the federal government not "respecting" the municipality.

Ald. Norm Johnson said it was mainly the CHP and Green parties on municipal property.

Last July, council passed a bylaw disallowing potential federal candidates from posting their election signs on municipal roadside allowances.

Candidates can still post their signs on privately-owned land, but only with the individual resident's permission.

In the past, signs posted at road corners have severely impeded the vision of drivers against oncoming traffic.
