Over 100 South Lincoln High School students walked the town of Smithville Thursday, Sept. 25 in honour of Terry Fox.
The event, a project of the school's Outreach Committee, raised $2,300 for cancer research.
From 11 a.m. to noon, students walked the town's sidewalks and then enjoyed a well-deserved lunch of barbecued hot dogs and soda.
Students had to raise a minimum of $10 in pledges to participate. Grade 11 student Keg Sipos raised the most money - $300.
The outreach committee is made up of 15 students who simply want to do good deeds in the community. Other projects include food drives, organizing the Penny Wishes campaign and the 30-hour famine.
"They do not get any rewards," said social science teacher Janis Harlos. "But they just want to be good people."
