Smithville Lions, Farmers' Market support Thanksgiving food drive

With the 2008 market season drawing to a close, the Smithville Farmers' Market will be returning the support to the community this Saturday.

To help support the Thanksgiving food drive being organized by West Lincoln Community Care, market vendors have donated produce to fill two baskets, the second of which will be presented to a lucky winner on Saturday.

"Patrons can donate a can of food or $1 to get into the draw," said market manager Vicki Turco. "Barrels will also be set up so shoppers can bring food for the food bank."

Those who enter the draw do not need to be present for the awards ceremony, she added.

A live turkey will be available, courtesy of market steering committee chair Albert Witteveen.

"Guess the weight and the turkey's yours," said Turco.
