(Re: DiFlavio questions Woolverton truck traffic, Aug. 20, The News)

The issue brought up by the alderman isn't just a Woolverton problem. As anyone who lives on or near Park Rd. or Mountain St. will tell you, it's a problem on all the escarpment access routes, not just Woolverton.

As a matter of fact, I'm willing to bet that the other accesses are more heavily travelled than Woolverton by both commercial and non-commercial vehicles, based on what I would perceive to be their somewhat gentler grades. I'm not saying that the problem isn't there, just that it's not just the one area.

If council decides to pursue this issue, I'd like to see the scope broadened to include both Park and Mountain as well.

I'd also like to congratulate council for being fiscally responsible on the issue of the Town Hall improvement. While I'm sure there are many valid reasons to expand/renovate/relocate at some point, I think it makes sense to make absolutely sure that we don't waste any taxpayer dollars on any "nice to have" projects, considering the extreme economic volatility we've seen in world markets over the last 12 months.

The funds which would have been required to get things going, might be better held back for a bit, to see which way the national economic situation goes over the next year or so. Something might arise short term that might have a more pressing need for the monies earmarked for the Town Hall project.

The term "revenue neutral" has been used recently to describe any number of Federal and Provincial plans and projects. Let's make sure we try to continue to be as revenue neutral as possible at the municipal level, as well.
