Carbon tax would not hurt
Letters
Oct 01, 2008
In recent statements to the media the Conservatives repeatedly stated that "a carbon tax as proposed by the Liberals would hurt the economy." This is not true, and Steven Harper, with experience as an economist, knows it.

The well-respected, non-partisan Organization for Economic Development, after lengthy studies of the effects of carbon emission tax in such countries as Norway and Sweden (with economies and climate similar to Canada's) concluded that while startup costs of the initiatives are substantial, in the end, the resulting economic growth would be far greater.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has stated that there is "unequivocal" scientific evidence that human economies are changing the world's climate, warning that the window for governments to act is narrowing.

In a reckless and deceptive strategy, Harper and his war room confederates have made the claims that the Carbon tax would have "a catastrophic" impact on Canada's economy and would "screw" Canadians. The only thing missing in these Tory claims is evidence. Where's your research, the statistics, the evidence?

They don't have it. All they have is an election war chest stuffed with money from big oil and big multinational interests.
