A $25,000 cheque for Project X-ray, signed by Walker Industries president and CEO John Fisher, means funds needed for the hospital project are down to $2-million.

The original price tag was $3.6-million.

Fisher presented the cheque to the West Lincoln Memorial Foundation on Wednesday, June 25.

"Walkers is a family business," he said, humbly. "We try and support a range of projects every year."

The Project X-ray campaign requires approximately $2 million more to be raised through pledges, gifts, and community events, said Andrew Smith, president of the hospital's Foundation.

"The Foundation is very grateful for the generous gift made by Walker Industries to Project X-ray," he said. "This donation shows their commitment to the community and to the future of the hospital."

Gifts like this will enable the Foundation to reach their fundraising goals sooner.

In anticipation of the campaign success, the hospital has already purchased four new machines to replace aging equipment.

A portable X-ray machine will be acquired within the next year, and a mammography unit will be purchased within two to three years.

While the equipment is being put to good use right now, reserve funds were used to pay for the machines, said Mr. Smith. This debt must be paid down, and funds must be raised for the two remaining units.

"I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all our donors, volunteers, staff and the Foundation Board," said Smith.

"Our success is a direct result of the commitment and compassion demonstrated by all of our community supporters. Together, we will realize our healthcare vision for the future."
