Mouths were watering last weekend at the Flavours of Niagara food, wine and jazz festival.
With 17 different vendors from all over Niagara each offering one or two of their most popular dishes, the selection process could seem rather difficult.
Michelle Giancola, a member of the organizing committee for Flavours of Niagara, said that in their second year some vendors who participated last year had returned and some were new.
"We had probably 20,000 to 30,000 people come over the course of the three-day event last year," said Giancola.
The Old Bank Bistro and Bar from Fort Erie participated in the event last year and was a vendor again this year. On the menu, their most popular dish: crab cakes.
"We did quite well last year so we knew this year would be even bigger," said Peter Koutroulakis.
The Old Bank Bistro sold 2,500 crab cakes in two days last year at the festival. The goal was to hopefully sell 5,000 this year.
The Festival, which has each vendor bring a different dish so everyone can taste something different, also had some new comers like Cafe on Main.
Patti Fagan, owner of the Cafe, came as a guest to the inaugural Flavours of Niagara last year and realized there was no coffee vendor. She immediately wanted to be a part of the event.
"This is a fabulous festival, so two days after the event last year I called," said Fagan. "I got a call just at the end of April this year, and they asked if I would participate and I was absolutely thrilled."
Fagan said after such a very successful weekend there is no question as to whether or not they will be back next year.
