Speeding vehicle leads to drug and gun seizure

Two people were charged with firearm, drug and driving offences Sunday morning after a traffic stop in Welland, the OPP report.

Shortly before noon on East Main Street at Highway 406, a vehicle was stopped for travelling more than 130 km/h through the area, police say. The speed limit is posted at 80 km/h.

OPP say during the investigation, an officer recovered two firearms and a small amount of marijuana from the vehicle.

The driver, a 30-year-old male resident of Port Colborne, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of marijuana, obstructing police and stunt driving. He was taken into custody with a bail hearing scheduled for the next day in Welland.

The passenger, a 20-year-old man from Port Colborne, was charged with careless storage of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was released on an appearance notice with a court date of Aug. 20 in Welland.
