On Monday the parking lot of the Wainfleet library will be transformed into a farmers market. Programmer Marianne Good said the push across the region to eat locally produced food prompted the one-day market.

The Wainfleet Library is giving residents some food for thought.

On Monday the library will host a farmers market to promote local eating.

"There's a big push in this region for local food and local eating," said library programmer Leanne Good. "So we came up with the idea to have a one-day farmers market at the library."

The market complements the theme of adult summer programming at the library -- Wainfleet's 100-mile diet.

So far, five vendors have signed on for the event offering a variety of fruits, vegetables, cheese and other farm fresh items.

"We don't have our own farmers market, everyone has to go to Welland or Port Colborne," Good said. "It's nice to have something, even if it is just one day."

Good said there are discussions taking place regarding the possibility of a regular farmers market in Wainfleet.

The Wainfleet farmers market takes place Monday from 7 a.m. to noon in the library parking lot.
