No harm in boot drive

Published on Jul 25, 2008

Once again I find myself questioning our town council on their decision to ban the boot drive from the Marshville festival. These men volunteer their time on that weekend to raise funds for our community and well being, I see no harm in what they are doing.

I think the Marshville heritage committee should be ashamed of themselves for their greedy actions. Do they take into account the stress the festival puts on our community? The traffic jams, the blocking of driveways near the village, and the inability of not going anywhere near the village during Labour Day weekend?

When I found out that the volunteers were doing the boot drive last year I made a point of going into the village just to donate, It bothers me that this is such an issue with Marshville, with the thousands of dollars you make each year on this festival, that you wouldn't support our firefighters. They are volunteers spending their weekend on the streets collecting money for our community. If the committee doesn't like it, maybe you should support our firefighters and forward some of the money you bring in over the weekend so these men can stay off your streets and spend it with their families.
