A Wainfleet motorcyclist is dead after he struck brand-new traffic islands on King Street in Welland last night.

Police were called to the area at about 11:10 p.m. and found that the man, 47, was driving his Harley Davidson west on East Main Street when he turned south on King and struck the island. He was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead.

His identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
