Improper refrigeration caused the Corner Cafe to be closed Sept. 3.
A routine inspection by Public Health found the refrigeration system at the Hwy. 3 eatery to be insufficient, forcing the agency to close it until remediation occurred,
It is unknown how long the problem persisted at the eatery said David Carey, environmental health manager for the region. He said none of the fridges at the facility were working at the time of inspection creating a hazardous environment for food.
"It creates an environment prone to the growth of disease-causing bacteria," he said. The atmosphere, he said, poses health risks to diners.
The closure was posted on the region's Info Dine website, which posts the names and locations of restaurants cited for health violations within the past six months.
Carey said the owners of the restaurant were very cooperative and worked to remediate the problem immediately.
The restaurant was reopened Sept. 5.
