Rain cancels Angel Dive

Not even angels can skydive in rainstorms.
The second annual Jump for an Angel fundraiser at Skydive Burnaby has been rescheduled for Sept. 28. Originally supposed to be last weekend, poor weather meant the event had to be postponed.
It's been the story of the summer at Skydive Burnaby. Excessive rain has meant the skydiving facility has had to cut back on its bookings.
"You gotta take the good with the bad in this sport," said Tara Pitt, of Skydive Burnaby. "There's nothing you can do about it."
All summer long, Skydive Burnaby has flown both days of a weekend only twice. Saturday seems like a regular rain date, said Pitt.
"Last year we flew every weekend," she said. "This year has been different."
Rain, clouds, heavy fog and high winds prevent people from being able to skydive. The bad weather has hurt Skydive Burnaby's bottom line, said Pitt.
"We still have the bookings, they just don't get to jump because of the weather," said Pitt.
The Jump for an Angel was started last year by Pelham mother Kristin Everitt, whose daughter Emily, 5, suffers from Rett Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that completely disables the victim, leaving them unable to feed themselves, walk, use their hands or speak.
Last year the inaugural event raised $15,000 towards research for a cure for Rett Syndrome and help for victims' families. This year the fundraising goal is $30,000.
