The 141st Niagara South Plowing Match saw a wide range of plowers tend to the fields.
The youngest competitor, 13-year-old Daniel Crooks of Grimsby, and eldest competitor, 77-year-old Jack Nixon of Hagersville, had a span of 64 years between them, but all had fun on the fields of Michael and Nancy Woronchak's farm in Ridgeway.
Dave Harrison of Fonthill was the winner of the Finlayson Tire trophy for the best plowed lands in the open two furrow class, with a second place finish for Jessica Grimes of Crystal Beach. Harrison was also the recipient of the McGregor-Miller Trophy for the best plowed land.
In the open three furrow Melanie Ker of Port Colborne took home first place beating out brother-in-law Warren Graham of Petrolia and her brother Larry Woronchak of Fort Erie in third place.
Daniel Crooks of Grimsby, the youngest competitor, took home the Niagara South Plowmen's Association plaque by beating out brother Rob Crooks and Colin Crawford of Smithville and Adam Challoner of Fort Erie in the under 18 division.
In the Niagara Antique Power Association class the winner was Gord Walton of Cayuga, followed by Robert Smith of Smithville, Hugh Henderson of Hagersville and Ted Majkut of Welland.
The winner of the Bob Marr Car Sales trophy for the Antique class was Harold Walker of Port Stanley, Mark Lane of Caistor Centre in second, third to Jack Nixon of Hagersville, Keith Seabrook of Grimsby in fourth place, Hugh Crooks of Smithville in fifth, sixth to Chris Woronchak of Ridgeway and Ian Break of Mississauga.
In the Tractor Driving Skills Competition, the winner of the 13-16 years of age class was Daniel Crooks of Grimsby driving the garden tractor pulling a two-wheeled wagon.
Winning the 17 years and older division using a full size tractor and four-wheeled wagon was Larry Woronchak in a hotly disputed matchup.
The Niagara South Plowing Match is the oldest plowing match in Ontario.
