The students at Richmond Street Public School were creative when it came to their fourth annual Terry Fox Run.
Steve Goar, Grade 5 teacher and organizer of the walk in the school, said instead of collecting pledges the students created other things to raise money.
"They sold paper hearts for $1 in memory of family members or friends who died of cancer," said Goar.
The hearts were added to the "wall of hearts" collage bulletin board. Students also sold wristbands with the words "Curing Cancer Together" printed on them for $2. T-shirts were also sold to students for $15.
"All of the money we raised came from inner-school activities," said Goar.
Goar said last year the school donated $576.21 to the Terry Fox Foundation and this year they were close to raising $500.
He said to get ready for the run, students read information about Terry Fox and were shown footage of Terry's Marathon of Hope at an assembly.
Thorold councillor Michael Charron also came to the school to discuss the importance of the Terry Fox Run.
