Youth can enjoy music thanks to Eddie Wright Scholarship

Published on Oct 10, 2008

Everybody should enjoy music. That's why Eddie Wright provides equipment and lessons to the youth of Niagara through a scholarship in son's name.

Eddie Wright Jr. was killed in a car accident on Aug. 3, 2006. The 18-year-old was an avid guitar player and vocalist. In his memory the family collected donations, which would be put towards a scholarship that would help others learn to love music, the way Eddie did.

"Everybody should be able to enjoy music," said Wright Sr., who recently donated a set of drums to the Community Living Centre in Port Colborne. "We want to help the kids who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to play."

The drums join a guitar and piano used to give lessons to youth at a nominal rate at the Community Living Centre. The lessons are part of a regular after-school program offered to youth at the facility on McRae Avenue.

"The kids wouldn't be able to take lessons if we didn't have the equipment," said Lucille Terreberry-Stepanchuk, manager of the centre.

Music lessons at Community Living are open to the public. For more information contact the centre at 905-835-8941 ext. 121.
