MPP 'furious' over election break

NDP House Leader Peter Kormos is furious over Premier Dalton McGuinty's decision to give MPPs an extra day off as the provincial legislature will no longer sit on days on which federal elections are held.

"Giving MPPs a special holiday is outrageous and offensive for the thousands of hard-working Ontarians who are struggling to make ends meet," said Kormos in a press release this week.

Kormos also said that Members of Provincial Parliament don't need to give themselves a new holiday, they need to get to work to find solutions for residents of Ontario during the current economic downturn.

"With Ontario's economy going to hell in a hand basket, there's important public business to be done," said Kormos.

Kormos said he believes that McGuinty's priorities are all wrong and that this one act shows it.

The new holiday starts with this year's federal election on Tuesday.
