Stevensville residents are invited to celebrate the area's Olympic hero Saturday.

Nick Weglarz, 20, had three hits and batted in a run in a 6-5 loss to Chinese Taipei, ending their preliminary round with a record of 2-5 at the 2008 Olympics Summer Games in Beijing.

Weglarz was a shining light in Canada's batting order. He hit .400 with two home runs and five RBIs in seven games.

Weglarz was drafted into Major League Baseball right out of Lakeshore Catholic High School in Port Colborne, in the third round by the Cleveland Indians.

On Oct. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m., residents will gather at the Black Creek Community Centre for a barbecue to celebrate Weglarz's success. Everyone is invited to the celebration at 2959 Baker Rd.
