Stalled construction to begin

Published on Oct 10, 2008

Next May, the Thorold construction project that began in 2007 and has left several residents without front yards will finally be completed.

Council this week awarded the contract to complete the job of installing sewer relief structures on Delaware Avenue, Sydenham Street and Lawrence Drive to Rankin Construction. Port Colborne construction company Hard Rock originally began the project but filed for bankruptcy last April.

When the project was stalled -- it was originally to be completed in March -- it left residents disenfranchised from their homes. Their front yards were filled with massive holes.

Coun. Ted Luciani said he was very pleased that construction will begin again, but was concerned about telling residents that it would be completed in May 2009 in case it wasn't.

Phil Lambert, acting director of operations, said the construction of the project will be completed in May, however, the restoration work would be done by June.
