Home course knowledge came in handy Monday as Mark Forbes fired a three under par round of 69 to win in the first stop on the Titelist Niagara District junior golf tour at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club. Forbes had nines of 35 and 34 to edge Adam Briggs, Evan Olsthoorn and Ricky Watson by a stroke.

Briggs, who plays out of Sparrow Lakes in Welland, was 33-37 while Olsthoorn, from the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club, had nines of 36 and 34 and Watson, like Forbes a member of the host club, shot 35 on both nines. Another two shots back were Jack Gibson of Fort Erie (35-37) and Colin Morgan from Peninsula Lakes (37-35). Finishing with rounds of 73 were Robbie Ellis from St. Catharines (37-36), Josh Hall from Twenty Valley (35-38), Kevin MacDonald from Sparrow Lakes (36-37) and Jordan Trendle from Legends (35-38).

On the girls side of the tee, Katie Learn from the Port Colborne Golf and Country Club put together nines of 38 and 43 for a total of 81 and an eight stroke win over Rebecca Siddall of Long Beach.

Siddall shot shot 41 on the front nine and 48 on the back nine.

Public player Rachael Wright was third at 95 (49-46) followed by Alexandria Taylor from Legends (53-50), Kendra Bishop from Rolling Meadows (49-58) and Alexandra McAvoy from Port Colborne (52-55). Nannette Martin from Port Colborne (50-62), public player Sasha Wright (57-56) and Madison Clarke from St. Catharines (68-70) rounded the girls side of things.
