Local karate kid Caitlyn Duck received a $100 boost from the Township of West Lincoln July 15.
The money will aid her as she prepares for the World Karate Association Championship to be held in Orlando, November 8 to 15.
Duck, a 12-year-old Grade 6 student at Covenant Christian School, needs to raise over $6,000 to fund the trip.
In April, Duck fought her way into several divisions at an Ontario regional qualifier in London, placing fifth in weapons, ninth in kata, and first in point sparring. Again, the top eight finishers moved on.
That qualified her for the Canadian championships in Hull, held May 16 to 18. There, she placed first in the continuous sparring class, and third in the 50-kg points sparring class, qualifying her for the World Championships.
